Before replacing a wireless receiver

Collect the exact equipment details, rule out a documented mismatch, and choose what to check next.

1. Identify what you already have

Keyboard or mouse model number Use the underside M/N and relevant variant. A retail name alone can cover different hardware. Do not enter a serial number. Receiver model number and family Record the receiver’s markings and the family stated in the exact device documentation. Unknown is a valid answer. Computer, operating-system version and port Connection path Describe direct computer connection, dock, hub or switch separately.

2. Record the evidence before choosing a path

Exact manufacturer document and date checked Documented options and unresolved requirements For each path, check the exact model, host/OS, pairing method and available port. Do not infer Bluetooth support from the word wireless. Conflict or mismatch If documents disagree, retain both references and stop short of a compatibility conclusion.

3. Choose the next check

Keep a working connection. Record what already works before changing it. There may be no reason to replace equipment.
Investigate a documented connection. A matching family is only one requirement. Check the exact pairing instructions, operating system and connection path before considering a replacement.
Defer a purchase. If the model, family or instructions remain unclear, record the missing detail. A connector that fits is not evidence of radio compatibility.

My next check and its result

Two documented pitfalls

Logitech says Bolt and Unifying products cannot pair with the other family’s receiver. The M185 specification page distinguishes model variants; its M-R0061 section lists a non-Unifying protocol. Do not turn a retail name into a universal receiver match.

For Bolt troubleshooting, Logitech directs readers to connect the receiver directly to the computer. This is manufacturer guidance, not a test of your hub or switch.
